Super Cool Cakes

This week has been a busy one but wanted to add a quick post so I thought I would feature some of our cakes we have made in the past year!      It's been fun creating new cakes with Scott...sometimes it gets a little tense though when two creative minds have different ideas of how it should look!  Every cake has a story...here are a few of them.

{The Sleeping Fisherman}
 This gigantic cake was made for my Uncle...it was a full sheet cake.  The first one that I have actually piped most of the cake.  My hands were aching my by the time I was finished.  The sleeping fisherman is my Uncle and the three fish are my cousins who share birthdays all the in the same month as their Dad.  They are playing pranks on him...one has his lure hooked to a tire (left), one is going in for his toes and the other one is laughing.
SOOO....The delivery of this was our most stressful one!  It was so big we had to take our Suburban but the A/C was out....and did I mention it was 95 degrees that day???  Plus an hour drive!  I was so stressed  by the time we got there I headed right for the bar after it was placed in the party room.  Glad we got to celebrate the rest of the time.

{Twins Cake}

Made for a couple who found out they were having twins.  It was just a small cake but one of my absolute favorite ones we made.  The babies are in a round crib with a cute dust ruffle on it.  It makes me smile just seeing it again!

Oh...and they ended up having a boy and a girl!
{Cherry On Top Cupcakes}
What better way to celebrate a 7 year olds birthday than giant hot pink cupcakes with bright yellow frosting and a fondant cherry on top!  Yummy!
{Fairy Cake}
Every little girl dreams of a fairy cake right?  This two tier cake was a heavy one!  With all the fondant on it I could hardly lift it by myself.  This was our first cake that Scott and I made together.  Everything is edible...even the fairies.

...and a couple pictures of us hard at work!

Worth a Thousand Words

Photography is one of my passions and as I look back on my photos, it brings back memories and evokes feelings of that time.  Here are a few of them...

I had found a beautiful park up along the Mississippi in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  It was a warm fall day, and this family just happened to walk across the path at the perfect time.  In the same park, a few weeks later, a hard frost had hit. I was somewhat down this day and came across these beautiful flowers still hanging on for life, even through the hard frost.

A couple years ago I had a friend visit and we went to the Arboretum.  It was spring and the Bridal veil bushes were in full bloom.  It was raining down light, fluffy pedals and as I stood under the tree my friend captured this photo of me.

We introduced Abby and Nic to the Renaissance Festival this past summer and when she ran into one of the fairies, I thought she was going to jump out of her skin!  Lyric, the fairy, had Abby make a wish as she blew fairy dust over her.  Below...Duluth at sunrise.  We were on our way to a snowboard competition and my GPS was taking us all over.  So I headed toward the lake so I could get my bearings and the sunrise was right there in front of us!  Stunning!

I took the kids down to my parents house in Arkansas and brought Meg's best friend, Jacob with.  Here are the two of them acting so hip!
And Roxy...aka Maddie...right after we had gotten her.  She was obsessed with playing ball.

The most American trip ever is to Mount Rushmore, and if you haven't made that trip, it is a MUST!  To get the feeling of the push west for land years ago, this is a great area.  So much to see and experience.  This, unfortunately wasn't what we had expected. This gigantic storm pushed through our camp site and tore down my Sister-in-Laws tent and pushed ours over slightly.  The sight of this storm was spectacular though!

Purple Tooth Fairy Doll

My latest creation for a customer is this charming purple tooth fairy doll.  She is hand-crafted out of clay.  My client is delivering it to her niece on Valentine's Day.  What a perfect gift for a little one!

Quirky Toothfairy Clay Doll

I want to share one of my "I have to try that"  projects!

Scott and I were out shopping at a boutique and ran across a clay doll that caught our attention.  We looked at each other and said...We need to try to make one of these dolls.   We headed to the craft store to pick up some Sculpey and sat down to make a clay doll.  Here is what I came up with...

She is a toothfairy doll.  She has a little bag tied to her wrist for the tooth and a ribbon attached to her head to hang on the door or bedpost.  I loved how she came out...

My second doll is in the works.

This is a fun project since whatever you have around that is left over can be used...even small pieces of fabric, lace, ribbon and fibers.

~ Her dress is made of ribbons and netting and her hair is black and silver fibers.  I used beads for her elbow joints
