Face Painting for Mardi Gras |
All my life I've always felt like I've had no direction in my creative life and always searching for my style. I've never stuck to one thing, jumping from painting to drawing to sewing and fashion design then onto decorating and sculpting...ok, you get the point. I have creative A.D.D! Everyone always has said "You are so talented, you should do something with it." or " You're wasting your talent."

A few of my favorite photographs |
Last night Scott and I were having a deep talk about what we want in life and our creativity. I was telling him how I've always felt somewhat lost because of my lack of direction with my creativity and he asked me why it was so important to be good at one thing? "Well...ummm...I don't know." I replied. I guess I've always been told I should stick to something and be good at it. His reply made me really think about it and realized that I love his perspective on this subject and I need to stop beating myself up over this and embrace my lack of direction.

A clay doll I made |
Scotts reply was..." I don't need a direction. I like not having direction because I can try anything I want. I can try building a table and when I'm done I can say...cool, I built that and then I can go try to replace the alternator in the car. Then redesign a room, refinish a bed or make a clay doll. I don't ever get bored because I'm always trying something new and I enjoy everything I do."
Well heck, that made so much sense to me and that I should be proud of everything I try and however it turns out is awesome because I made it! Who is to say I don't have a direction or that I'm wasting my talent? Here are a few of my projects I'm proud of!

i love love love your husband's view. It truly makes sense. i am 62 years old, and have never had direction as far as my creativity is concerned. In fact, for many years i did not know that i was creative. In high school and college, i had to excel in English, Math, and Science. Although my art was placed on the bulletin boards, i never felt good at it. My career was nursing, of course. My parents were so proud to have a registered nurse in the family! However, something was always missing. Throughout my life i used my creativity whenever i could, but i never had direction. If i had embraced that lack of direction my mind would have been at ease and my heart would have loved my ability. It truly is in the way you look at it. i will begin today. Your art, btw, is exceptional. The clay doll is absolutely beautiful. The cake is a treasure. The costume is perfect. The charcoal is amazing. You have it girl. Go with it, and enjoy every ounce of creativity that is in those pretty little hands of yours. i am so pleased that i found you.
